Why Waiting to Find the Perfect Fit Matters

Oh baby, did we finally fish in what we’ve been looking for!

On the ever-evolving path of changing my wardrobe, I have been on the hunt for a midi skirt. This path however is now built behind a better principle. After watching/reading about sustainable clothing, and the fast-fashion industry, I have been trying to put in the work to do better for the environment. That means:

  1. Try second hand first.
  2. Buy from sustainable brands.
  3. Buy consciously (do you need it or do you just want it).
  4. You have to love it. Literally love at first sight, fits like a glove, otp type.
  5. If it’s not second hand, quality over quantity. You want to invest in your clothing. You want it to last.

It is a lot for someone like me to adjust whose wardrobe is still 60% Forever 21 (if the shoe still fits I’m not letting it go!). This is easier though for someone who isn’t too tied to trends. I actually do want more of a minimal look, a capsule wardrobe if you know of the fashion lingo. However, it is excruciatingly difficult to find a piece of clothing that I love. 9/10 I will skip on an item because I know deep down I just like it, not love it, and if there’s anything I’ve noted in my wardrobe is that 80% of my pieces are “I like it.”

With that being said, I’ve been on the hunt for a midi skirt. For reference, I am 5'0, so a midi skirt at best is a short maxi skirt. Length alone is dependent on the company. Then there is quality, pattern, feel, etc.

I wasn’t looking for the skirt, the skirt came to me. And while I naughtily slipped it on underneath my biker shorts, I knew I found my one true pair.

I put the skirt on for my dinner tonight and I was swooning! Me! Swooning in a skirt! Just a quick FYI, I am not a skirt person. So why I have been looking for one for the past two years would seem strange to those who know me. This is the first one I’ve owned in years and I am in love.

I love the way it lays on me.

I love the way it hugs my waist but accentuates my hips.

I love how it flows in the breeze.

I love how it billows out when I twirl. I’ve always loved a good twirl.

I love how it makes me feel.

It reminded me that this is why I love the path I am on. Despite sometimes how frustrating it can be to pass up on something that could be “nearly perfect,” it is the moments when you find the perfect one that makes it worthwhile.

Now excuse me while I wear the heck out of this skirt for the summer.
