Dear Diary: 6 Aug 2021
At my job, we are scheduled 5 days in a row (starting out), and so whatever your two days off are back to back is called your “weekend.” My weekend is on Thursday and Friday. Not to bad if you ask me.
That is, if you had anything to do or people to hang out with.
On going out
I’ve done my best to try to go out at least once a weekend. I was going to go down to Brooklyn actually on Thursday to finally do some ninja training. But I had a time conflict with a meeting that has been pushed off for way too long. So another week will go by until that might happen again.
Going out is hard in general because as soon as you walk out those doors, money is spent. I found this website for NYC that logs cheap or free things to do in the city. I check that often and it has led me to some pretty cool random things I probably wouldn’t have known about.
I go out alone on most occasions which is fine. I don’t mind doing things alone. I am comfortable with being around myself. But…
On hanging out with other people
Moving to a new city is hard. And this is also the first time I’ve done this as a choice (not because of school or work). So the whiteboard is wiped clean. Friends are not just going to enter your life due to a forced environment. You have to physically go out to places, go attend things that are related to your hobbies for like-minded people. And again, unfortunately, if you are trying to do the most on a budget, it is easier said than done.
In addition, the friends I’ve made have other friends. Or, they work when I’m not working so its hard for our schedules to align.
So I wonder. I always try to at least go outside. Breathe in the world.
But sometimes it is lonely and sometimes you just wish you could enjoy yourself a little more if you had a little more.
As one wise woman once said: it’s brutal out here.
